I'm Miguel, and I'm passionate about making the web accessible for everyone

Why I Started One Step Access

I'm 27 years old and a first-generation college graduate from Eastern Oregon University, where I earned my degree in Business Administration.

I started One Step Access because I believe everyone deserves equal access to digital content. Too many organizations want to make their websites and documents accessible but don't know where to start. That's where I come in.

My goal is simple: make everyone's experience on the web much more accessible. Accessibility isn't just about blindness or screen readers—it's about removing barriers for people with all types of disabilities: vision, hearing, motor, cognitive, vestibular, speech, and more. Accessibility isn't complicated, but it does require the right knowledge and tools. I help organizations understand what they need to fix and how to fix it.

My Background

Section 508 Trusted Tester Certification

Certified in 2024. This certification means I understand federal accessibility standards and can test digital products for compliance with Section 508 requirements.

Real-World Testing Experience

I've tested over 200 digital products at higher education institutions including Clark College, Eastern Oregon University, and Portland Community College. This experience gives me practical knowledge of how accessibility works in real organizations.

Education

Bachelor's degree in Business Administration from Eastern Oregon University. First-generation college graduate.

Accessibility Testing

I test websites and digital products to find barriers and create reports with specific recommendations for improvement.

Document Remediation

I fix PDFs, Word documents, and other files so they work with screen readers and other assistive technology.

3-Month Projects

I work with organizations on ongoing accessibility improvements, testing, coaching, and implementation support.

Podcast Services

I create, edit, and produce podcasts at a fixed price. If you're starting a podcast or need production help, I can help.

I'm based in Portland, Oregon. I work with clients in Portland and throughout the region, and I also offer remote services for organizations anywhere.
